Tacos or burritos?

Although they share similarities, taco and burrito are different.

Though substantially they are not that different (both are made of tortilla wrapping food), cultural and socially they are two different things.

Taco. The taco is an ancient staple, consisting in food wrapped in a tortilla, traditionally made of corn, but in modern times also made of flour.

The most popular ones are those made with beef and pork (suadero, pork sausage, steak, “carnitas”)

Burrito. The burritos are a variation of the taco, born in the XX century, and quickly absorbed by the tex mex food style (mixture of Mexican and Texan food styles).  Burritos are made solely with flour tortillas, and are usually accompanied with beans, rice or cheese, together with the main ingredient.

Tacos are usually eaten as an appetizer or main dish, whereas burritos are always a main course.

At the end, they are two dishes that share similarities but also have differences.  One comes from a long tradition, the other is a modern invention, but both are delicious and we are very fond of them.
